Repairing and Maintaining Boats since 1951

For more than 70 years, Spaulding Boatworks has been a gathering place for boaters who care deeply about their boats, their craft, and the waters they sail on. As Sausalito’s longest-standing boatyard, we are proud to be part of a community built on shared knowledge, mutual respect, and a common love of being on the water.

Founded by Myron Spaulding in 1951, Spaulding Boatworks continues his spirit of integrity, hard work, and generosity of knowledge. Our full-service yard remains a place where boat owners, technicians, apprentices, and neighbors come together—where experience is shared, questions are welcome, and good work speaks for itself.

Today, our working yard is where our apprentices master their craft and where we generate the revenue that supports our mission. Every boat we service helps us teach maritime skills and preserve our heritage.

Our Approach

At Spaulding, customers are not just work orders—they are part of our boatyard community. We believe the best results come from collaboration, conversation, and trust built over time.

Our technicians take the time to explain what needs attention, why it matters, and what options are available. We encourage questions and welcome owner involvement, giving you the opportunity to tailor each project to the specific needs of your boat and how you use it. Whether you are maintaining a longtime vessel or preparing for your next adventure, we work alongside you every step of the way.

Craftsmanship, attention to detail, and clear communication have always been the foundation of our work.

Commitment to the environment

Protecting the marine environment is a shared responsibility. Spaulding Boatworks uses environmentally responsible practices throughout the yard, including proper containment, waste handling, and thoughtful materials selection. Caring for boats and caring for the water they sail on go hand in hand.

A mission beyond the boatyard

Since 2000, The Spaulding Marine Center has operated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. In addition to our full-service boatyard, the site is home to educational programs, community workshops, public events, and the Boatworks 101™ Apprenticeship Program, which trains the next generation of marine service technicians.

When you bring your boat to Spaulding, you are supporting more than a repair—you are supporting education, workforce development, and a living maritime tradition. We are grateful to have you as part of our community.
